2 weeks

Two weeks from today I have my follow-up appointment about my ankle.  I have been in this boot for 3 weeks now and I am very anxious to get out of it.  I have learned my lesson about over training I promise.

I made it to K’s cross country meet after work today.  It is the first time ever that I have watched him race.  Usually I am in the same race and he is way ahead of me.  Watching someone else run when you can’t is very tough.

K is the maroon one in front.  He has a funny form but then again so do I lol.  He finished towards the end of the middle of the pack.

Today’s happy/healthy tip is:

COMMUNICATE AT WORK

Communication is an art form.  It can be a powerful tool for getting through life and has a great impact on our personal and professional relationships.  Expressing yourself or rallying a message with sensitivity, honesty, respect, and professionalism is a fantastic way to build positive relationships.  But different people and situations require different approaches.

You will probably meet people with vastly different characters, from vastly different backgrounds during your career.  Sensitivity and respect are the key words here to keeping it professional.  Pay attention to the type of person you are meeting and engage accordingly.  Stay calm even if adverse exchanges occur.  If possible, be prepared: know your conversation topic, your company policies, and the background of the person you are meeting.  Don’t divulge too much personal information upon first meeting-keep things brief and clear.

Birthday run

Today I celebrated my 36th birthday.  To start the day right I woke up both boys early to go for a 3.6 mile run.

Yup you are reading that right we started our run at 6:23 am.  It was worth it to see the sun rising over the Mississippi.

It was beautiful.  What made it even better was seeing it with 2 of my 3 children while doing something that all 3 of us love to do.

So here we are getting ready to make the walk home from our run.

We did a ton of other walking/hiking today.  It was 2 miles to get home from our run.  Then after showers D and Z joined us for another 2 miles.  After lunch we took another mile long walk.  To end the madness G and I went for another 2.25 mile walk just the two of us.  I am exhausted but had a blast being active with my family on my birthday.

July 17th training run

Today K and I set out to do our week 14 day 1 training run.  The run was supposed to be wall 5 minutes, run 60, walk 5.  I say supposed to be because that’s not what happened.

It was a balmy 90°F with high humidity today so we went to the shaded county park and gave it a shot anyway.  The first problem was that we didn’t add ice to the hydration pack.  It all went down hill from there.  We ran on a hiking trail around a pond.  I guess that this could be called our first trail run.

It actually ended up being 2 runs because we walked for a mile between runs.

So everything said and done we ran 2.94 miles in 33:34.  Not great but we still did better than everyone on the couch.

Tomorrow is week 4 day 2 with G.  Hopefully it won’t be as hot and we can actually get a good run in.
